About the role

Tensley Consulting is seeking a Technical Writer Level 2 to support documentation efforts within systems engineering, software development, and operational environments. This role is responsible for the preparation, review, revision, and maintenance of technical documentation including software and systems engineering documentation, system operations, testing, and user documentation. The Technical Writer will write and edit documentation for hardware and software systems, including installation guides, configuration documentation, how-to documentation, policies, and procedures. Responsibilities also include producing implementation guides and end-user documentation that clearly describe system capabilities, as well as formatting technical publications such as reports, pamphlets, technical drawings, and flowcharts in accordance with established standards. The Technical Writer will work closely with engineers, developers, and other technical personnel to gather information and translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise, and usable documentation.

education / experience

Six (6) years of experience as a Technical Writer supporting programs of similar scope and complexity is required. Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline from an accredited college or university is required. Four (4) additional years of Technical Writer experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree. Salary: $100,000-$120,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position, but is not guaranteed. Salary is based on experience, location and contractual requirements which could fall outside of the range listed.

Qualifications

Experience preparing, reviewing, revising, and maintaining technical documentation across software, systems engineering, and operational environments Experience writing and editing technical documentation for hardware and software systems (installation, configuration, how-to documentation) Experience producing implementation guides, end-user documentation, and technical publications Experience formatting technical materials including reports, flowcharts, and diagrams to defined standards Ability to work with engineers and technical personnel to gather and translate complex information into written documentation Experience developing policies, procedures, and technical manuals

Desired Skills Experience supporting DoD or Intelligence Community programs Familiarity with Agile environments and tools such as JIRA or Confluence Experience supporting systems engineering or cybersecurity-focused programs Experience simplifying highly technical material for broad audiences
